A generation ahead

Today, geoVue is the only 3rd generation provider of location intelligence solutions. In the last half of the 20th century, chain operators relied on 1st generation location planning - best described as placing pushpins in a map. With computerization, location planning became slightly more sophisticated when spreadsheets became the tool of choice for analzying and distributing location information. This, along with simple analog methods of sales assessment, provided rough, labor-intensive assessments of store networks and sales estimates.

At the end of the 20th century, 2nd generation systems were adopted by leading companies to reduce the uncertainty in location planning and provide better visualization of markets and trade areas. 2nd generation solutions are commonly used today, consisting of specialized in-house real estate analysts using PC software to analyze current customers, prospective customers, competitive stores and other data. The results are then plotted using mapping software. Generation II allows for the formation of a general trade area and a more detailed set of variables for analog models. But the current demands of chain store enterprises require more precise answers and greater efficiency for faster, better location decisions.
